Back in 2001 I was seeing a girl who just insisted "we" get a cat and keep it at my apartment even though we didn't live together. I was dead set against it having that "Guys don't have cats" attitude. Additionally, I've always had an alergy to dogs and assumed I'd also be alergic to cats... turns out that I'm not.

In any case after a week of nagging I allowed my girlfriend to keep "her" cat she had went ahead and adopted at my apartment. His name was Simon. After a week, my now ex-girlfriend completely abandoned me with this cat.

In early 2007 I rushed Simon in the middle of the night to an animal hospital. Faced with enormous vet bills with no guarantee he would not continue to be in pain, I also had him put down. I was inconsolable. So in short, I feel your pain brother. It was the absolute hardest thing I've ever had to do.

I've since got another kitten who I've named Miles. He's awesome in his own way too.

I like you stop short of saying I'm a "cat guy"... but I do love my cat.

Adam,

Sorry to hear. I have an inside cat that has been my companion since 1994 and I will truly miss her when she departs. Pets are kinda like a utility - they are always one, they are always there until one day they aren't.
I also have 3 outside cats that have been with us while we built out house. They keep me company outside when I work, sitting and watching me shoveling, or wrenching on a car, or sitting on your lap when you stop to take a break. Cats are something you don't know you needed until you have one, and then can't imagine not having one around once you do.
Sorry dude.

Hey Scott. Thanks for the link. Very special kitties there. I love how the site was named...

Upside down cats…anyone who knows a cat is familiar with this pose. It says, “I feel so secure that I can assume this position of complete vulnerability. I am willing to expose my soft underbelly – at grave risk that it may be attacked – or worse yet – petted, kissed or nuzzled!”

So, I've posted another photo. Abby was not only an Upside Down cat, but she was comfortable enough with us to sleep that way.

Adam,

I've started to leave a comment here a couple times and have always had to step away before I could get it finished.

You see we have an Abbey of our own, as well as a Cooper, a Desi, and a Beemer. Our Penny has been gone for a couple of years now but we still think about her every day.

It's difficult to think about life without them. Like your Abby, our cats are also wonderful animals and wonderful companions - they add so much to our life and help to make our house "our home"

I can't express how sad I am for you - but I am glad you have such wonderful memories, photos and video to keep as a reminder.

My wife has written a lot about our feline friends on her blog at upsidedowncats.com but this post here introduces you to both Abbey and Penny.
