Friday 9/3/2030: Dakota's Ahedo severely injured
DAKOTA - Dakota's right-hander Mario Ahedo suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 8 weeks. In the 4th of the game against Oregon he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Ahedo was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Tricep Tendon. In 23 starts this year Mario struck out 104 batters in 130.2 innings of work. His ERA is 4.48, his record 10-5.
 
Wednesday 9/1/2030: Dakota's Harris out for 5 weeks
DAKOTA - Dakota's pitcher Rocky Harris was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 2nd inning of the game between Dakota and Worcester. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Harris will miss about 5 weeks. Dakota wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Harris had suffered a Broken Hand. In 30 starts this year Rocky struck out 145 batters in 171 innings of work. His ERA is 4.21, his record 7-13.
 
Wednesday 9/1/2030: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
It's the 1st time that the The Kid Pitcher of the Month award goes to Rock Rapids' pitcher James Fraire. He went 5-0 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.58. He struck out 35 in 40 innings. Opposing players hit .214 against James this season. While posting an ERA of 2.76 he went 15-3 in 30 starts, fanning 160 and walking 63 hitters. He's 4th in the The Kid in ERA and 4th in wins! The best month of August in the The Kid certainly had Rock Rapids' right-hander Laverne Liter, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He went 6-0 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.07. He struck out 44 in 42 innings. This season Liter compiled an ERA of 1.83, going 19-3 in 30 starts. He fanned 185 while giving up 151 hits in 197 innings. He's 1st in the The Kid in ERA and 2nd in wins!
 
Wednesday 9/1/2030: Briggs (SEA) and Debord (PHI) win monthly award
It's the 2nd time that the The Kid Batter of the Month award goes to Seattle's shortstop Leopoldo Briggs. Leopoldo pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .461 with 16 and 35 RBI while slugging 1.124. While compiling an on base percentage of .483, Leopoldo hit .342 and slugged .830. He has collected 118 runs batted in this year. He's 4th in the The Kid in batting, 1st in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! It's the 8th time that the Splendid Splinter Batter of the Month award goes to Philly's rightfielder Levi Debord. Levi went 37 for 101 (.366), while hitting 11 HR and collecting 38 RBI. This year Debord drove in 150 and scored 122 runs while batting .345 with 45 homeruns. He's 3rd in the Splendid Splinter in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Monday 8/30/2030: Seattle's Briggs wins Player of the Week award
Seattle's shortstop Leopoldo Briggs had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the The Kid Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .625 and hit .571, while driving in 7 runs. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. Briggs has walked 114 times this year and posts a .482 OBP. While batting .342, 143 for 418, he has driven in 115 runs. He's 5th in the The Kid in batting, 1st in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! It's the 1st time that the Splendid Splinter Player of the Week award goes to Long Beach's pitcher Glen Baird. Glen went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.00, while fanning 10 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
 
Wednesday 8/25/2030: Clemente Palomares hits for the cycle against Dublin
CAROLINA - Clemente Palomares hits 'em where they ain't. Dublin certainly agrees as Carolina's centerfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. A single in the 1st off Randy Hillman accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit was a double off Randy Hillman in the 3rd inning. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 375 feet, cleared the wall in right field. A triple off Gustavo Vaca in the 8th inning, accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Clemente did drive in one while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .306. He becomes the 35th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 6/22/2030, Marcel Cisneros was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Monday 8/23/2030: Brian Hart pitches 2-hit shutout against Carolina
CAROLINA - Brian Hart took the mound and never left. And Carolina hitters couldn't touch him at all. Dublin's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 4 career shutouts in 185 games started. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Hart (6-13) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 67 of 100 pitches for strikes. Bernal Fernandez helped Hart at the plate, he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, with 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 7-0.
 
Monday 8/23/2030: Vickrey (BRO) and Barnard (DAK) win P.O.W. award
The Player of the Week award in the The Kid goes to Brooklyn's Pedro Vickrey this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Pedro pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .391 with 3 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .783. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. Chas Barnard wins his 1st Player of the Week award. Splendid Splinter pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 19 at bats he hit .579 with 4 HR and 6 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
 
Thursday 8/19/2030: Bill Hollister out for 5 weeks
PATRONE - When it rains, it pours. Patrone's ace Bill Hollister will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Oregon where he left the field in the 5th inning. Hollister was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Tricep Muscle. This season Hollister compiled an ERA of 2.83, going 8-3 in 15 starts. He fanned 75 while giving up 69 hits in 89 innings.
 
Wednesday 8/18/2030: Jose Costas out for 7 weeks
DAKOTA - Dakota is without its right-hander Jose Costas for at least 7 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Jeff Gonyea in a game against Homestead. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Costas was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Jose has a record of 5-8 this season, with an ERA of 4.57. In 122 Innings he was able to strike out 87 batters.
 
Monday 8/16/2030: Philly's Varnado wins Player of the Week award
The The Kid Player of the Week award goes to Rags Watanabe, Port Adelaide's starting centerfielder. Rags went 15 for 23 (.652), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 4 RBI. Alberto Varnado wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. Splendid Splinter pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .545 with 7 RBI and slugged .818 in 22 at bats.
 
Sunday 8/15/2030: Rhode Island's Dameron out for the season
RHODE ISLAND - Rhode Island's catcher Phillip Dameron will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Rhode Island and Las Vegas. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Dameron collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Torn Groin Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Phillip is hitting .275 this year, with 79 hits in 287 at bats. He has driven in 33 runs, slugging .456.
 
Friday 8/13/2030: Jack Mack out for 6 weeks
OREGON - Oregon's ace Jack Mack suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. In the 4th of the game against Philly he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Spasms Back. This season Mack compiled an ERA of 2.38, going 13-6 in 24 starts. He fanned 154 while giving up 135 hits in 170 innings. Jack has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. Friday 8/13/2030: Rigoberto Muņoz clubs five hits in a game
PORT ADELAIDE - Rigoberto Muņoz is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 2nd hit was a RBI triple off Ulysses Purves in the 5th inning. The game was tied, 7-7, after the blast. A 402 foot drive to right-center marked his 5th hit, a GRAND SLAM off Andre Orduna in the 9th inning. He collected singles in the 4th (one RBI) , in the 6th inning (one RBI) and in the 8th inning . Rigoberto did drive in 7 while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .274. The final score of the game was 18-12.
 
Thursday 8/12/2030: Reggie Czech found the stroke, smashes three homers
HOMESTEAD - Hobbs' designated hitter Reggie Czech flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 15-5 win over Homestead. His 1st shot, a two-run homerun off Charles Bordte in the 1st inning, cleared the fence in right-center. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Charles Bordte. A pitch from Roosevelt Strong in the 4th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 391 feet from home plate in right field. Reggie finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times with 6 RBI. Marcel Cisneros was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 7/11/2030. Hobbs improved its record to 29-86, scoring 15 runs on 19 hits.
 
Tuesday 8/10/2030: Long Beach's Cinnamon severely injured
LONG BEACH - Long Beach's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, first baseman Don Cinnamon, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Calf Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Cinnamon has hit 12 bombs this year while batting .304. He adds 27 doubles, along with 81 runs scored.
 
Monday 8/9/2030: Philly's Ensminger out for the season
PHILLY - Philly's left-hander Ken Ensminger experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 7th inning of the game against Chicago, Ensminger complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle which will require surgery. This season Ensminger compiled an ERA of 2.89, going 3-0 in 0 starts. He fanned 22 while giving up 53 hits in 46.2 innings.

The Player of the Week award in the Splendid Splinter goes to Long Beach's Albert Gondzur this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 16 at bats he hit .563 with 1 HR and 9 RBI. Albert is hitting .303 this year, with 99 hits in 327 at bats. He has driven in 65 runs, slugging .453.
 
Saturday 8/7/2030: Nagano's Blizzard out for the season
NAGANO - Nagano's right-hander Reginald Blizzard will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against San Francisco on Saturday. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 25 starts this year Reginald struck out 140 batters in 149 innings of work. Winner of this months The Kid Pitcher of the Month award is Brooklyn's Matt Lee. His record of 4-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 34.1 innings of work he allowed just 33 hits while striking out 21, compiling an ERA of just 1.57. This season Lee compiled an ERA of 1.91, going 12-1 in 19 starts. He fanned 102 while giving up 108 hits in 131.2 innings. He's 1st in the The Kid in ERA and 3rd in wins! Long Beach's pitcher Efren Demarco is the Splendid Splinter winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in July. His record of 4-1 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Valdes was examined by specialists. VANCOUVER - Vancouver's pitcher Daniel Gomez was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 4th inning of the game between Vancouver and Fall River. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Gomez will miss about 4 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Hand which will require surgery. He will miss probably 7 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Inflamed Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. FALL RIVER - Fall River's ace Serafin Palmeiro suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against New York he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. His ERA of 2.04 helped him to a 10-5 record this year. He struck out 92 and walked 18 in 119 innings. Sunday 7/11/2030: Chicago's Marcel Cisneros has great day, hits three longballs
DAKOTA - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Chicago's first baseman Marcel Cisneros accomplished that feat in a 12-0 win over Dakota. A pitch from Zachery Hersey in the 4th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 379 feet from home plate in right field. His 2nd shot, a solo homerun off Zachery Hersey in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in left-center. In the 8th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Dorsey Jennings. Marcel got 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR times and driving in 4 runs. Hans Parramore was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 6/15/2030. Chicago scored 12 runs on 15 hits.
 
Thursday 7/8/2030: Rey Hebbler (RIR) will miss 7 weeks
RHODE ISLAND - Rhode Island's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, shortstop Rey Hebbler, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 7 weeks. Seattle's Jerry Simms had a terrific June, and it earned him the The Kid Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.94 helped him to a 5-1 record in June. He worked 48 innings, striking out 34 hitters while walking 5. His ERA of 1.83 helped him to a 14-2 record this year. He struck out 111 and walked 13 in 137.1 innings. He's 1st in the The Kid in ERA and 1st in wins! The best month of June in the Splendid Splinter certainly had Fall River's left-hander Rod Strub, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He started 4 games in June, going 2-0 and compiling an ERA of 0.72 in 25 innings. Rod fanned 21 hitters. His ERA of 3.10 helped him to a 9-3 record this year. He struck out 85 and walked 14 in 98.2 innings. He's 6th in the Splendid Splinter in wins!

Tuesday 6/29/2030: Oregon's Mattos out for the season
OREGON - Oregon's centerfielder Oswaldo Mattos will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Oregon and Long Beach. Tuesday 6/22/2030: Marcel Cisneros uncorks cycle hits against Rapid City
RAPID CITY - Marcel Cisneros led Chicago to a 10-6 win over Rapid City by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! A single in the 2nd off Ignacio Tabares accounted for his 1st hit. A pitch from Ignacio Tabares in the 6th inning left his bat for a RBI double. Hit number 3 followed in the 7th inning, a two-run triple. In the 9th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Leroy Stiles. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Marcel scored 2 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He now has a total of 57 hits this season, accounting for a .247 batting average. He's now the 34th player in league history to hit for the cycle! On 9/20/2029, Manyueru Shigenaga was the last player to hit for the cycle.

Sunday 6/20/2030: Fall River's Strub severely injured
FALL RIVER - Fall River's ace Rod Strub suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 4th of the game against Long Beach he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Strub was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Bicep Muscle. In 16 starts this year Rod struck out 85 batters in 98.2 innings of work. His ERA is 3.10, his record 9-3. PHILLY - Philly's rightfielder Justin Rust will miss at least 5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Inflamed Anterior Cruciate Ligament which will require surgery. He fielded a ball off the bat of Terry Waple, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. Bradley has hit for a .295 average this season. He has 28 extra base hits along with 114 total bases, resulting in a .551 slugging percentage.

NAGANO - Nagano's right-hander Eric Williams suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. LAS VEGAS - Homestead's centerfielder Thomas Kivler accomplished a difficult feat in a 13-1 win over Las Vegas, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .225! In the 1st inning he belted a double off Don Politte. His 2nd hit, off Don Politte in the 3rd inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Don Politte in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in center field. In the 7th inning he belted a double off Phil Bronk. A RBI double off Stephen Cartwright in the 9th inning accounted for his 5th hit. Thomas did drive in 5 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He now has a total of 28 hits this season, accounting for a .283 batting average. Homestead improved its record to 19-33, scoring 13 runs on 17 hits.

VANCOUVER - Philly's right-hander Manuel Feijoo is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Vancouver on just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Feijoo (6-2) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 100 pitches. Levi Debord helped Feijoo at the plate, he stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, going deep twice, scoring twice and collecting 4 RBI. Philly scored 5 runs on 9 hits.

Saturday 5/8/2030: Vancouver has no chance in a 2-hitter by Jack Mack
OREGON - Jack Mack took the mound and never left. And Vancouver hitters couldn't touch him at all. Oregon's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 344 games started. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Mack (3-2) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 7. Lew Abramowitz provided Oregon with the offense Mack needed as he finished 1 for 3, hitting a homerun. PHILLY - It was a great day for Philly's right-hander Manuel Feijoo. The 27-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Chicago on Friday. Feijoo (3-2) struck out 9 and issued 3 BB, throwing 60 of 109 pitches for strikes. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. Thursday 4/22/2030: Las Vegas' Butkovich severely injured
LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas' pitcher Ted Butkovich was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 3rd inning of the game between Las Vegas and Patrone. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Butkovich will miss about 5-6 weeks. Butkovich was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Fractured Hand. His ERA of 4.84 helped him to a 1-2 record this year. He struck out 15 and walked 7 in 22.1 innings.

OREGON - Oregon's catcher Averardo Espinoza suffered a season ending injury he was bowled over in a collision at home plate. Espinoza laid unconscious on the field for several minutes and had to be carried off the field. He will miss the entire season. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Hip. Averardo is hitting .174 this year, with 8 hits in 46 at bats. He has driven in 2 runs, slugging .217.

CHICAGO - David Miller hits 'em where they ain't. Chicago certainly agrees as Fall River's centerfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. LAS VEGAS - Evyn Martinez was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Las Vegas to a 9-8 win over Springfield by homering three times. A pitch from Michael Standley in the 1st inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 454 feet from home plate in left-center. Number 2 in the 9th inning, a shot estimated at 378 feet, cleared the wall in left field. It tied the ballgame at 8. In the 12th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Budd Macias. His final blast of the game capped his performance as it won the game, setting the crowd on fire! Evyn finished with 3 hits in 6 AB, scoring three runs with 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 4, along with 10 RBI.
 
Monday 4/19/2030: Briggs (SEA) and Myrdal (SFH) win P.O.W. award
Seattle's shortstop Leopoldo Briggs had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the The Kid Player of the Week. Leopoldo was on fire, hitting .364 with 7 HR and 8 RBI. He now has homered in 5 consecutive games as well! The Player of the Week award in the Splendid Splinter goes to San Francisco's Jesse Myrdal this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 25 at bats he hit .560 with 2 HR and 9 RBI.
 
Monday 4/12/2030: Rhode Island's Hebbler wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the The Kid goes to Rhode Island's Rey Hebbler this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .560 and hit .560, while driving in 10 runs. It's the 1st time that the Splendid Splinter Player of the Week award goes to Vancouver's rightfielder Richard Shaw. Shaw helped his team with an average of .500 and 6 RBI in 20 at bats.
 
Wednesday 4/7/2030: Ronnie Fitnam punishes New York with three dingers
NEW YORK - Ronnie Fitnam was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered San Francisco to a 15-1 win over New York by homering three times. A pitch from Javier Ibarra in the 4th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 409 feet from home plate in left field. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Dory Batres in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 377 feet from home plate. His 3rd shot, a two-run homerun off Lefty Palmer in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in left field. Ronnie finished 3 for 4, scoring FOUR times and driving in 5 runs. In 3666 career at bats, he has hit 131 homeruns and collected 554 RBI. Willard Saunders was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 9/30/2029.
